Top 5 Legend of Zelda Swords

The Legend of Zelda series capitalizes on gathering and expanding a vast repertoire of weapons, items, and magic. Ahh there’s nothing better than opening a man-size treasure chest, hearing that familiar tune, and receiving a brand spanking new item. Link’s tools range from powerful to strange, some decidedly more interesting than the others. Here are the coolest Legend of Zelda swords, new and old.

Master Sword

Legend of Zelda Swords: Master SwordGame: Nearly All

Console: All

Description: Also known as The Blade of Evil’s Bane, the Master Sword is a recurring legendary sword in the Zelda series. Though relatively simple in appearance, this sword has become somewhat of a icon of the franchise, symbolizing Link’s only hope against Gannon and his hordes of bad guys. True to its name, the sword is often seen to choose or accept its master by its own will, always a hero who has gone through great trials that test his courage, wisdom and power to prove him worthy of wielding it.

Biggoron’s Sword

Biggorons SwordGame: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Console: N64

Description: The Biggoron’s Sword is one beastly weapon. Two hands are required to wield it meaning Link is unable to use his shield, but the sword does twice the damage of the Master Sword which definitely makes up for its slight handicap. If you hack first, ask questions later, this is the weapon for you.

Great Fairy Sword

Great Fairy SwordGame: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

Console: N64

Description: This colorful blade is one of four possible swords to acquire in Majora’s Mask. Gaining this weapon is no easy task and requires Link to embark on numerous tedious quests across the land of Termina. Doing 4 times the damage of  the Kokiri blade, the Great Fairy’s Sword, is more than worth its weight in annoying errands. The Great Fairies have given Link numerous items over the years but this is definitely one of the best.

Golden Sword

Golden Sword

Game: The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past

Console: SNES

Description: A Link To The Past features not one, not two, but four possible swords to be collected throughout the game. The Golden sword is not only the most powerful sword in the game, it’s pretty flashy as well. Given just in time for fighting Ganon, the fancy golden blade definitely makes the final battle easier while cutting the time it takes to best Gannon in half. While this sword is not required, who would pass up adding this baby to his arsenal?

Four Sword

Four SwordGame: The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

Console: GBA

Description: The Four Sword is a very unique inclusion to Link’s vast repertoire of weapons. Crafting the White Sword with the fourth and final element, Wind, forges the White Sword into the more powerful version called the Four Sword. It has power to shoot beems when charged up to uncurse stone statues in the Dark Hyrule Castle, as well as allowing Link to split into four copies.

What are your personal favorite swords from the Legend of Zelda series? Are you someone who sticks with the classic Master Sword or do you prefer one of the alternatives blades of the franchise?

Editor’s Note: Some other notable Zelda blades can be found later in franchise including the Phantom Blade from The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, the Locomo Sword from Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, and the Goddess White Sword from Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

  • Master Chief

My favorite Legend Of Zelda sword is the Goddess Longsword

    • I prefer the Goddess White Sword myself but they are both pretty similar 🙂

I like how the Master Sword has changed over the years. Initially it looked very plain, not very interesting for the super ultimate weapon. But over the course of the series, the wings on the hilt became more prominent, the gem in the center now glows, and even the sword length has increased. Now the Master Sword is actually cool

I’ll take the golden sword!!!! It felt rewarding after going out of my way to get it. Plus back in the day….it just looked pretty =)

LOL!!! yes it was the hardest game!!! I almost flunked a grade in elementary school because of it! Many sleepless nights with that game back then.

    • Did you happen to play Skyward Sword by any chance? I’m curious to hear your thoughts about the game, if you liked it or not.

Yeah i played it! Took me close to 60hrs to beat!! I like the game. I like the episode 1 vibe i got from it !!! the beginning of the fight between good and evil!! How they paid homage to various zelda games!!!! The thing that bothered me about it alittle though was all the back tracking i had to do while playing the game. Other then that, i put this in my top 3 zelda games.
